Printed, sealed and ready to go – the most important essay of my life

By jacqib

Phew! It’s done. In the nick of time I have completed my end of course assignment (ECA) for A215 Creative Writing, printed three identical copies, filled in the relevant cover sheets, remembered to write ‘2007 rubric’ on the front of each cover sheet (I had a deferral from last year), put it in an envelope, sealed it, and left it by the front door for my lovely SO to hand deliver tomorrow.
It can be delivered by hand up till midnight on 6th June but he will take it in tomorrow morning. I have printed a sheet for whoever accepts it to sign, write the time of receipt and stamp. I’ve enclosed a stamped addressed card for the Assessment Office to return to me as their confirmation that they got it in time.

I’m hoping the SO will phone or text me as soon as he has delivered it.

All that remains is to keep my fingers crossed and wait for the results. I had thought I would know by August but it looks like it might be late September before the results are out.

I think I’ve written one fairly good piece (it almost wrote itself once I’d pinned down my characters) and one mediocre piece (that I struggled with and kept coming back to – it was the reason I am so close to the deadline before finishing). A word limit of 2500 words for two pieces is tough!

I also had to write a 700 word reflection on my writing and I referred to my difficulties with the mediocre piece so maybe that will help. The reflection carries 20% of the total mark.

A good mark would be nice but so long as I get 40% I will have passed. If I pass I will have got my degree. When I’ve got my degree we can submit an expression of interest (the first step) to emigrate to New Zealand. That’s why it’s the most important piece of writing (it’s not actually an essay) of my life.

I’ve still got three essays and a three hour exam to go on my current course (AA310 Film and Television History). It’s my back-up if I don’t pass the writing course (but it’s a harder, higher-level, course). If I do pass the writing course and pass AA310 it’ll upgrade my degree to honours.

I’m off to bed now. Not sure if I’ll sleep.
